Once opened, it is advisable to consume Appel's canned fish immediately. If you have any leftovers, store the delicious canned fish in the fridge and eat it the next day at the latest.

Appel cans do not contain any plasticizers/BPA. The cans are made of aluminum with an inner and outer coating. The inner lacquer also contains no plasticizers/BPA.

At Appel, we process our fish carefully, with a lot of manual work and love. Before processing, the herring is delivered fresh in Cuxhaven and checked for perfect quality.
Then comes the first production step: blanching. The herring is briefly immersed in boiling water and thus optimally prepared for processing. At the same time, we prepare the delicious sauces and refined creams for the Appel herring fillets. Our employees carefully place the blanched fish by hand into the can, which has been "pre-dipped" with sauce or cream. The tin is then filled with sauce or cream and sealed. Our products are then sterilized by heating the cans at 121°C for 20 minutes.

Our cans are made of coated aluminum and are therefore a valuable, recyclable material. Please dispose of the empty can in the recycling collection (e.g. yellow bag/yellow garbage can).

In the following video tutorial, you will receive uncomplicated step-by-step instructions on how to open an Appel delicatessen can correctly.

1. Place the can on a flat surface

2. Grasp the tab of the can ring and pull it upwards as far as it will go (90° angle)

3. Now pull the can ring together with the lid diagonally upwards ..

4. ... until the lid almost comes off - please do not pull it off completely yet!

5. In this position, rock the lid slowly and carefully back and forth. The lid will then detach from the base with a soft "pop" - and the fine pleasure is just around the corner.

Fried or cooked fish can be eaten during pregnancy without any concerns. The sealed tin undergoes a sterilization process so that the fish is completely cooked through. Our filleted roast herrings can also be enjoyed without hesitation. This is because they are pasteurized, i.e. heated to at least 60 degrees.

Our mayonnaise is made with pasteurized egg yolk. This means that no "raw egg" is used.
