MSC: Marine Stewardship Council
The MSC is committed to sustainable fishing worldwide. MSC-certified fisheries fulfill three criteria:
- Only healthy stocks are fished.
- Environmental impact is kept to a minimum.
- Fisheries are so well managed that stocks can be fished in the long term.
ASC: Aquaculture Stewardship Council
The ASC is committed to environmentally friendly and socially responsible aquaculture. Companies that are certified by the ASC must meet strict criteria:
- Environmental protection: companies must minimize their impact on the surrounding ecosystems
- Social responsibility: companies must ensure safe and fair working conditions
- Animal welfare: the focus is on the health of the farmed fish
- Traceability: It must be transparent and traceable at all times where the farmed fish come from

Trawls (pelagic otter trawls)
for appel herring and mackerel fillets
Pelagic means floating or hovering. The fishing boats pull the trawls floating through the sea so as not to damage the seabed. So-called otter boards keep the trawls open. The fish are caught through the opening. The trawls are funnel-shaped and end in a pocket in which the fish collect. The mesh size of the nets is adapted to the size of the fish species so that fish that are too small can get back into the sea.

for appel, herring, mackerel, sardine fillets and tuna
A purse seine is good for catching schools of fish and is set around them. A string line pulls the net closed, which then completely encloses the fish. In deep-sea fishing, purse seines can reach up to 2000 meters in circumference and 200 meters in depth. Of course, there are also much smaller specimens for inland fishing. Due to the very small mesh sizes in the lower part of the net, the fish remain unharmed.
